The Soča river Valley was the scene of the famous WorldWar I Battle of Caporetto (Kobarid today).
Note: Ernest Hemingway's famous "A Farewell to Arms" is a first-person narrative of an American lieutenant in the ambulance corps of the Italien Army campaign in WW1. He participated in the battles and vividly describes the horrors of conventional and gas attacks from the Austro-Hungarians (supported by Germany) across and along the Soča river.
